China’s new mandatory wine import registration 📄

China’s new customs regulations on food and beverage entry have required from producers and exporters to fill out registration before January 1th 2022.

Initially, only importers had to fill in the wine information, but the new rule require all wineries to complete a detailed registration form online, which includes “questions on manufacturing location, operation modes and even water supply”.

Here are 3 important things you should know about the process:

  • You can’t modify the form online once uploaded.

  • Once approved, the registration number will be valid for 5 years,

  • Getting the approval is estimated to last almost a month and all the process is free of charge.

These new regulations come from two decrees issued earlier in 2021, stating that all foreign food manufacturing, processing, and storage facilities must be registered with the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC), and include their registration codes on products labeling.
